How Self Publishers and Authors Keep Information Fresh and Useful

Let's try something to discover the impact of your website. It's just a small exercise to capture a snapshot in time of your website's performance. To demonstrate this, perform a keyword search for words related to your books and information? Does your website show up in the results? The goal is to have your website featured on the first page of results. If it doesn't, you may need to do more work. Once you created your website, be sure to keep the content engaging. After a few months in business, you can discover new information about your book's impact and appeal. While learning about your book's status, put what you've learned on your website to draw even more customers. For example, you may have only received book reviews by a few friends, family and local book reviewers. Now, after being on the market for a while, new reviews are posted at the online book store pages. Include those reviews on your website and in your marketing plans. Also, ke

Study your marketing efforts

When websites, blogs and social media are set up correctly, niche authors can check marketing stats regularly and adjust techniques based on the data. That's because on line marketing venues provide traffic reports detailing the amount and type of visitors during a selected time frame. These statistics can help determine which articles or blog posts were more effective, where the visitors came from and how long they stayed. This information is very helpful to also determining the best keywords to use to drive traffic to your blogs. One way to get feed back on website and blog efforts is to track page visits with Google Analytics as outlined  in Chapter 7 of Get Rich in a Niche . Research results often and adjust your marketing efforts according to the best reports. Many social media, article and blog hosts including Facebook and ezinearticles.com  provide monthly reporting providing valuable information. Be sure to sign up for this service and check the facts often. Her

Maybe just go to the local printer

I received a phone call recently  asking if Red Bike Publishing could help her get her group's book printed. After a few minutes I understood that the potential customer wanted to print a specialty book for her small history club. She wanted the books, but did not want to make it available online. I quickly realized that the printing and distribution resource my company currently uses would not be a good match for her needs. This was a clue for me to check on other options. In this scenario, bar codes, ISBNs, PCNs and other numbers associated with cataloging and publishing were not needed. She wanted a do it yourself book printed whenever she needed it. Maybe your book project is not necessarily made to attract the masses more than just a short term need to train your small groups. Some specific uses include:       Very few copies for micro use-Members of exclusive clubs and organizations may only require a few copies and are not for the use by or knowledge of non-member

Tax Deductions for Authors, Self, and Indie Publishers

Writing off expenses is incredibly helpful way to decrease your tax burden. However, it's not a license to defraud the government. As a rule of thumb, you should claim all of your income and pay what you owe on taxes. The challenge of collecting and reporting taxes is difficult at first, but it is part of doing business, and is a must for maintaining that business. Fail to do so could result in fines or worse. Doing the right thing will help you better sleep at night, and increase your business savvy. Author situations differ. Some authors make a lot of money and writing is their only source of income. Some have full time jobs and writing provides some of the household income. Either way, the income made from writing must be claimed during tax time. The only difference is if you have a side from writing, your employer is withholding taxes. In your writing business, you should be paying estimated quarterly taxes based on your total income (just writing or income from writing

Publishers, Authors and Taxes

A word about taxes. When working on your business, make sure that you are prepared to conduct a lot of administrative tasks to include paying taxes. For federal taxes, this means filing quarterly estimated taxes. This quarterly estimated tax depends on your total income all your sources of income including full time jobs and businesses. This tax is also figuring FICA, Medicare and any profits your business earns (total sales minus expenses). Managing taxes is sometimes and easier endeavor when filing as a sole proprietary entity, especially where state jurisdictions are concerned. In these cases, tasks will pull you from your primary business roles to handle mundane but important administration. So, before you decide to form an LLC or other incorporated entity, do your research up front. For example, I just recently converted my business into an LLC. Red Bike Publishing, LLC has a new structure and is expected to maintain that structure according to the Alabama's State D

Ideas for Re-Writing Your Self-Published Books

Need a break from writing? How about a re-write? Don't let your writing become daunting. Have some fun with it and when it's not fun, take a break. This might be a good time to leave the new writing and focus on the re-writing season. I'm using the following approach to update older books on writing, security and my unpublished novel. Technology, processes, information and even my own capabilities warrant these updates.   Giving your books an update will help boost sales and give you a chance to re-introduce your older products as fresh and revised. If you already have books available or you have some drafts sitting around, postpone new writing projects and give your old publications a face lift. Chances are, you might have some work laying around for the past three years that could use some updating If you have a book, no matter what topic, consider these four factors and apply them to your nice . For example, I've included examples of how I am re-writin

Creating Your Niche Products

I shared my success story to teach you what I have learned in my adventure to become a niche expert and self-publisher. I’ve read a lot of books on writing, publishing and marketing and all have been excellent references. However, they were not written for a niche publisher/author. While I could not have gotten where I am without reading these great helps, I feel there is more that I can teach you. Specifically, not all writing, publishing and marketing efforts will work every time and within every niche. What this means for you is a streamlined approach to creating and selling your books and spin off products. One thing that I have to my advantage is professional organization and Federal guidelines for the national security industry. These provided the blueprint for many of my ideas. Just by anticipating new requirements and discovering some needs I can create new products. As a vendor or supplier, I can use my core competencies as a publisher, consultant, teacher and author to prov

Rainy Street Stories-Reflections on Secret Wars, Espionage and Terrorism — Red Bike Publishing

Rainy Street Stories-Reflections on Secret Wars, Espionage and Terrorism — Red Bike Publishing Rainy Street Stories-Reflections on Secret Wars, Espionage and Terrorism Rainy Street Stories is a composition of powerful reflections on today’s espionage, terrorism, and secret wars. These stories, essays, and poems by John Davis, himself a retired intelligence officer, take place from Europe, to Asia, and back to the Americas. He lived overseas for many years, where he served as a soldier, civil servant, and gifted linguist. Davis writes with a thoughtful, compassionate, and fair assessment of his lifetime lived during wars and conflicts which were his generation’s legacy from World War II. He recounts mysterious, sometimes strangely suggestive, even curiously puzzling tales. Each will cause the reader to think. Davis draws from actual encounters from unusual circumstances, in conversations at utterly unexpected times, and chance meetings, historical site visits, or his readings t
