The secret to niche marketing is to become a rock star in your specialized industry. Though the majority of the world do not recognize your name or brand, those in your industry will. When I was younger, I enjoyed garage bands or what people call indie bands today. These groups created a unique sound not enjoyed by mainstream music lovers. However, to their faithful, they were on the top of the list.
Your goal should be the same. Like indie bands, your goal isn't to try to get your music to the masses. Most indie bands avoid mainstream audiences like crazy. They love and play to their audiences in small and sometimes unsavory venues. To get ahead in your niche, your sold out concert might just be a handful of people attending your readings, classes or blogs. You can't afford to, nor should you try to reach the mainstream consumer. Your target is multiple sales and contact with your faithful audience.
You can be well known and respected within a niche industry. The funny thing is the fame can result from all
free campaigns, while you never need to pay for advertising.
Here are just a few ways to do so.
1. Teach a course-contact the local college, continuing education, community center or niche related business with adequate teaching space. All you need is a location and a medium to help professionals in your niche learn more about their industry. You might team up with a professional organization as a sponsor and avenue for awareness.
2. Become the go to person-Write a helpful blog or newsletter. This may take a while to gain recognition, but it is one of the best ways to reach your target audience. People are more willing to accept you as an expert if you've published professional, tidy, accurate and helpful articles.
3. Write an ebook or print book-As you write your blogs and articles, teach your courses and work to gain influence in your field, work on your book. Your other endeavors will create the built in audience necessary to launch your books and products.
Guest speak-Lead a seminar, discussion or increasingly popular workshop. This will allow you demonstrate your skill, communicate your ideas or provide encouragement to other professionals. Providing compelling topics will help establish your credibility.
Though you might not command the attention of millions, you can have a strong army of faithful followers. Focusing your attention on meeting the needs of that fan base can help you market, provide products for and reach your core group with less effort and more effectiveness.
